10 Health Tips for Youngsters

Health means the state of mental, physical and social well-being, it is more than the absence of disease. The most commonly discussed types of health are mental and physical health. Emotional, spiritual and financial are considered as others. There are ten tips any person can follow to stay healthy. But teenagers should pay special attention to health tips like the below given.

Get plenty of sleep

Teens need sleep of 8 to 10 hours per night. As they are going through a stage of maturation, they need enough sleep. It helps to protect them from serious situations and negative emotions like depression, fear, and anger. 30 to 40 minutes afternoon nap will be an extra benefit for tired teens.

Eat a healthy diet

Eating three meals a day is a must and enjoy healthy snacks such as fruits and vegetables between meals. Drink water and milk instead of soft drinks. Avoid taking fast food which rises your weight. Leafy green vegetables such as spinach and beans, fish like salmon, cereals, and pulses are the most suitable.

Exercise regularly

Teenagers should engage in physical activities at least an hour a day. It is necessary to maintain good health and fitness during growth. The exercises may include; walking, dancing, running, swimming, cycling, hiking and games like soccer. Some of the benefits of exercising are; it helps to maintain a healthy weight, improving strength, releasing tension, proper blood circulation, etc.

Wash your face twice a day

Washing face with a mild, gentle soap (or a face wash which is suitable for your skin type) two or three times a day, prevents you from getting acne or pimples. But don’t over wash as it increases the oil production and breakouts. Use a smooth towel instead of harsh clothes to wipe off.

Brush and floss

Use a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste and brush your teeth twice a day. Clean not only teeth but also your gums as well. Brushing and flossing is the best way to remove decay-causing bacteria from your teeth. It helps to maintain good oral health.

Don’t smoke or use tobacco products

Studies have shown that lung development is weakened in teenagers who smoke. Tobacco use and smoking cause severe health problems at any age. It causes coughing, wheezing and damages heart and blood vessels too. So, smoking can cause early heart disease among teenagers. 

Drink enough water

There are several factors to determine the amount of water to be taken as; age, climate, physical activities, etc. For teenagers, experts recommend drinking around 2 liters a day. Drinking enough water helps the kidneys to pass urine freely, helps the body to maintain a healthy weight and relieves constipation too. 

Bathe

Poor hygiene leads to a variety of health problems as skin infections. As teenagers go through puberty the body does things differently. Hair grows in new places and makes sweat smelly. So, shower every day. Wash hair daily. Use suitable shampoos, conditioners, and deodorants. Stay hygiene.

Maintain a good relationship with your parents

Always have a positive attitude around your parents. Talk to them more often as friends and keep a sense of humor. Join in on a hobby with them. Tell them what bothers you and everything that happens. Share your life with them. It makes you mentally, socially and emotionally healthy. And it develops your motivation too. 

Stop listening to loud music

Teens love to listen to music at high volume. But they don’t recognize the dangers of it. It damages ears specially if headphones or earbuds are used. If someone is listening to loud music repeatedly, permanent hearing loss can occur.
